As far as I know, I didn’t eat any cockroaches as a small child. But I did, as a small child, learn all the curse words, from riding in the car with my mom and she’d swear at the other drivers on the road.

Which is why her favorite childhood story to tell about me is how at a family lunch at Chi-Chi’s with like 15 people, I spilled one of the salsa bowls, then kept saying SHIT over and over again, a little bit louder each time, until everyone at the table was was looking at me like “why is the 4 year old saying SHIT so much?” so I said, “I said SHIT because I spilled the salsa!” because of course you’re supposed to say SHIT when something bad happens, that’s what I learned from riding in the car with my mom.
